My Baby Rhymes! (Shelley's Story)

Hi Tecolia, my name is Shelley. I have a 6 year old son and a 3 year old daughter. My 3 year old daughter is very smart and active. However she hasn't begun to fully talk yet. I was a little concerned so I took her to the doctors. To my surprise they said she's fine! I didn't believe them so I got a second opinion, same results! My question to you is do you have any suggestions on how to encourage my daughter to speak, I'm getting frustrated. My son didn't have to this problem he was talking full blown sentences by two! But I have to say he doesn't have the potty down still at age 6! HELP!!!!!!

Hello Shelley! Yes I can see that you are a bit frustrated. First you need to let that frustration go because it will only make the situation worse. Then I would suggest that when you and your daughter are out and about, make it a learning experience, an adventure! Ask your daughter questions like "Do you see the green tree?" By doing so you are teaching her what she is seeing, you are getting her familiar with everyday objects and life! Also did you know that rhyming is a great way to encourage your child's language development? Rhyming helps to boost auditory memory, and develop rhythm. So get ready to start rhyming and preferably whip out those Dr. Seuss books! As they are a great tool for building vocabulary!

  1. No kid has a specific time when they will start talking fully. Shelley I think yur being impatient. Every kid develops so differently. Tecolia has spoke on that before and she is right! I think you should be more worried about yor son not being potty trained at 6!

  2. It may sound harsh but I have to agree with the previous person. You should be more worried about your boy not being poty trained. I noticed that you said your daughter is talking some, my thought is he'll probabl be talking so much more by the end of the year!

  3. I think you should take your son to the doctor because something is holding him back. Something may be also holding your daughter back as well. I think you need new doctors.

  4. I have to disagree. I don't think anything is wrong with the little girl. The mom said she's talking somewhat. So I believe she'll be a motor mouth like all kids soon. As for her son yes he might be held back from something, but only time will tell.
